Honoring Life Events

Significant life milestones in a spiritual community are led by our ministers and celebrated with family, friends, and community.

Getting Married

We celebrate love in all its forms. A wedding ceremony gives public expression to the commitment two people make to one another.  Our minister assists all couples – straight and gay – in creating a service that most fully represents the nature of their commitment to one another, and reminds others of the joys and responsibilities of such a commitment.  Wedding couples are encouraged to select the readings, vows, and statements in the ceremony.

Welcoming a Child

A child dedication celebrates the presence of a new and unique person at First Parish who is newly born or newly adopted. In a child dedication ceremony we do not dedicate the child as much as we dedicate ourselves to the care of a child. Parents pledge publicly to nurture their child physically, emotionally and spiritually. The congregation pledges to nourish the spirit of this child and the dignity of all life.

Memorials & Funerals

First Parish memorializes the life of one who has died in many ways. Marta or Rev. Erica can help you create a memorial service and conduct a committal service for your loved one.  First Parish’s tradition of Spoken Memorial during a worship service each month names of those dear to us who have died within the last year are read aloud and the church bell rung for each one named. The Memorial Garden holds the ashes of many First Parish members and Remembrance Corner lets members honor their loved ones with an engraved brick paver in the garden.
