Message from the Transition Team
We are in an important interim period between the ministry of Rev. Marta Flanagan, who retired in June 2025, and the arrival of our next settled minister in August 2027. This period is more than just a gap in time. During the period of Interim Ministry, the task of the Transition Team is to facilitate dialogue within the congregation so that we can identify elements that we can address, improve, repair, or maintain in an intentional way. This process will help guide us as we make important decisions about our next settled minister. Our interim minister, Rev. Dr. Jonipher Kwong, is here to lead and support us through this interval, and to cultivate our awareness of how the choices we make as a congregation affect the future of our community.
Last year, the Transition Team organized a variety of events aimed at engaging our community in conversation about our history, our goals and values, and our hopes for the future. About half of the congregation engaged in listening circles, Q and A sessions, coffee hour chats, or other venues. These experiences affirmed the importance of creating avenues for clear communication and ensuring that everyone knows that their voice matters.
As we enter year two, we are partnering closely with the Parish Committee, the Settled Minister Search Committee, and the Covenanting Task Force. It will be a busy year! Our team will continue providing avenues for connection and communication—including info sessions, small group conversations, and regular newsletters.
We welcome you to reach out to us with any comments, questions or concerns. To reach our whole team, including Reverend Jonipher, write to: transitionteam@firstparish.info. You are also invited to contact any of us individually. We look forward to hearing from you!
