Listening Session: Flags at the Meetinghouse

How should we use the First Parish flagpole?
The Defending Democracy working group has suggested that we fly three flags: a U.S. flag, a LGBTQ+ pride flag, and a Black Lives Matter flag. In this time when the U.S. flag has come to be increasingly associated with white Christian nationalism, we believe that it would be valuable for First Parish to help reclaim a more inclusive understanding of patriotism. The LGBTQ+ flag and the BLM flag would also help us share our values with the wider community.

The Parish Committee will be making a decision about the flags this fall but first they want to hear from all of you! Join us for a listening session on October 21st at 7 pm on Zoom. Come share your thoughts and hear what others are thinking.
