A Parish Committee Rose of Recognition goes to Marilyn Downs for her artistic creativity and generosity. In addition to her work on the Art Exhibition Committee and her many contributions to First Parish art shows, last year she donated her painting of Kate, a young woman who was enslaved by the Jason Russell family from infancy. The Russell family were founding members of what is now First Parish in Arlington. The painting, “Kate Dreams,” and a statement of context are hanging in the hall across from the reception desk. Marilyn’s work is a powerful gift of art, history, and reflection.
