DESCRIPTION:Please join us and help create the First Parish Harvest Moon quilts for 2024 and 2025! \n Saturday\, March 23\, 10am – 3pm\, in the First Parish Vestry. \nPlease register for this event by email to Carolyn Hodges\, STAR@firstparish.info \nCalling all quilters\, sewists and interested folk!   We will sew together in the vestry offering two projects–\this is an opportunity for us to get a bit ahead of the Harvest moon Fair schedule. \n1) Creating a brand new quilt:   We will be making a simple block.  These will be assembled and quilted for the 2025 Fall raffle quilt.  You will need to bring a working sewing machine (that you know how to use)\, sewing tools and thread.  We also need rotary cutting tools\, rulers and mat (if you have them– and we can share!).  Extension cords and power strips are also a help. \n2)  For Harvest Moon Fair  2024\, we already have a completed quilt top (thank you Wendy Page) — this is ready for hand quilting–   we will prepare (sandwich) the quilt and begin hand quilting this quilt as our 2024 Harvest Moon Fair quilt.  This is an excellent opportunity for those new to quilting and willing to hand stitch. \nEven if you don’t sew we welcome your company cutting and pressing.  Fabric welcome too (100 percent cotton please)–  we will also have a selection.  If you are unable to join us in person and want to help- please RSVP so we can include you too! \nQuestions? contact Carolyn Hodges (STAR@firstparish.info) \nRain date: Saturday April 13\, same time and place.

DESCRIPTION:House of the Rising Sun \nDiane Taraz will present The History of the Oldest Profession in song. For millennia women have turned to sex work to survive\, and societies throughout history have handled its inescapable persistence in different ways. The many songs about this sensitive topic\, including the title song from New Orleans\, are equally varied — bold\, regretful\, rowdy\, and often filled with defiant humor. DESCRIPTION:Program: Mindfulness to Help Navigate Difficult Emotions \nConflict is inevitable in most relationships. But it is uncomfortable\, and we usually want difficulties to disappear. Drawing on new research in psychology on what makes relationships work\, as well as a mindfulness practice to help us navigate difficult emotions\, Susan Pollak\, MTS\, Ed.D. will teach us ways to befriend conflict so what we think of as obstacles can become opportunities. \nDr. Pollak is cofounder and teacher at the Center for Mindfulness and Compassion at Harvard Medical School / Cambridge Health Alliance. \nRefreshments 7-7:30\, Program 7:30 to 9 \nThis Alliance meeting is both in-person and on-line.
