SUMMARY:Settled Search Small Group Conversations
DESCRIPTION:If you feel invested enough in FPUUA’s future to spend a bit of your time helping us\, the Settled Minister Search Committee\, gather feedback and data about our community\, its priorities\, and its areas for growth\, then you are welcome to participate in a discussion group! Registration is required – please register online. \nOpen Small Group discussions are events where folks from all across different areas and ways of engaging with First Parish will talk about Search and our congregation together. \nFocus Group discussions are events that intentionally create space for voices from communities that make up minority populations in our congregation to be amplified\, allowing the Search Committee to hear from folks whose perspectives may be less prevalent in Open Small Groups. The goal of Focus Groups is inclusion in the Search process for as many perspectives as possible. To achieve this goal\, it is sometimes necessary to facilitate spaces where minority voices do not have to compete with majority voices to be heard. \nEach event is a one-time gathering. Each Focus Group is limited to 12 participants or less and will happen via Zoom. Open Small Group events will offer multiple concurrent discussions with 12 or fewer participants. To leave space for others to participate\, please do not register for multiple Open Small Group dates. If you would like to attend more than one Focus Group\, or to attend both an Open Small Group and a Focus Group\, you will need to fill out this form once for each. As you decide how to participate in this part of the Search process\, please be mindful of the goal to include as many unique participants as possible across the whole slate of events. \nQuestions or having difficulty registering? Please reach out the Search Committee at settled-search@firstparish.info \nOPEN SMALL GROUPS: \n\nZoom open small groups #1 — Oct. 24\, 2pm\, Zoom\nIn-person open small groups #1 — Oct. 25\, after worship/12pm\, FPUUA\nZoom open small groups #2 — Oct. 25\, after worship/12pm\, Zoom\nZoom open small groups #3 — Oct. 30\, 6pm\, Zoom\nIn-person open small groups #2 — Nov. 1\, after worship/12pm\, FPUUA\nZoom open small groups #4 — Nov 1\, after worship/12pm\, Zoom\n\nFOCUS GROUPS: \n\nJewish congregant’s focus group — Oct. 13\, 7pm\, Zoom\nNon-parents focus group — Oct. 15\, 7pm\, Zoom\nLGBTQIA+ focus group — Oct. 19\, 7pm\, Zoom\nSingles focus group — Oct. 20\, 7pm\, Zoom\nFamilies with children focus group — Oct. 22\, 8pm\, Zoom\nAccess and disability focus group — Oct. 26\, 7pm\, Zoom\nYoung adults focus group — Oct. 27\, 7pm\, Zoom\nBIPOC congregant’s focus group — Oct. 29\, 7pm\, Zoom

SUMMARY:Embrace the Darkness Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, December 11\, 7:00 pm \nWorship in the Sanctuary and on-line \nFor the 18th year at First Parish we offer a special evening worship service during the holiday season\, a worship service to “Embrace the Darkness.” Interim Lead Minister Rev. Dr. Jonipher Kwong will lead us in worship and Diane Taraz will offer music. This service will be an opportunity to acknowledge the darkness that surrounds the light of this festive season. This contemplative service of solace is a reminder that our sorrows matter and that we are not alone. \nHanukkah\, Christmas\, Kwanza and New Years are thought to be jolly\, merry and happy. And sometimes they are. We are reunited with loved ones. We sing. We pull out decorations bringing us memories of other good times flood us with delight. We linger over sumptuous meals. We give and receive gifts which remind us we are known and understood. \nOther times the holidays remind us of who or what isn’t at the table. We feel keenly a death or an estrangement. Love lost\, health lost\, job loss may feel more present than joy. We are aware of the poignancy of changes felt or soon to come: children growing older or elders who will not be long with us. This poignancy is part of “Embracing the Darkness.” Many say this worship service is their favorite of the year. All are welcome \n scroll right scroll left\n\n\n\nView or download the Order of Service\n\n\nThe Order of Service is generally posted on Thursday before the service\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick To Join Worship on Zoom\n\n  \nOr use your phone to participate with audio only by dialing 929-205-6099 then enter 859 7713 3204 followed by the pound key. \nIf you have trouble connecting via Zoom\, you may view the sermon on our YouTube channel at a later date. \nBack to Events
