SUMMARY:Front Corner Project Presentation and Conversations
DESCRIPTION:The Parish Committee has established a committee to investigate rebuilding the front corner section of the church grounds to welcome the broader community\, honor Marta’s 16 years of service and reinforce our corner as an area of public witness. We will have a listening session on April 12nd from 12:00 to 1:00 in the Sanctuary to hear your ideas. We also hope to make this session available online. We will post prior design ideas on the rolling board in the vestry to jump start our discussion. You can also discuss your ideas with any of the members of our team: Allan Tosti\, Andrew Leonard\, Mark Wilke\, Phil Speare\, John Galantowicz\, Peggy Gardiner and Sanjay Newton. \nAll are welcome to come look at prospective plans\, share feedback\, and ask questions in the Sanctuary at noon on April 12. Stop by the congregational art show opening in the Parlor and then come learn about the plans for our front lawn. \nWe also encourage you to check out the plans and information posted on the folding screen in the Vestry – available starting March 29 and leading up to the information session and conversations on April 12.

SUMMARY:Embrace the Darkness Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, December 12\, 7:00 pm \nWorship in the Sanctuary and on-line \nFor the 17th year at First Parish we offer a special evening worship service during the holiday season\, a worship service to “Embrace the Darkness.” Parish Minister Rev. Erica Richmond will lead us in worship and Diane Taraz will offer music . This service will be an opportunity to acknowledge the darkness that surrounds the light of this festive season. This contemplative service of solace is a reminder that our sorrows matter and that we are not alone. \nHanukkah\, Christmas\, Kwanza and New Years are thought to be jolly\, merry and happy. And sometimes they are. We are reunited with loved ones. We sing. We pull out decorations bringing us memories of other good times flood us with delight. We linger over sumptuous meals. We give and receive gifts which remind us we are known and understood. \nOther times the holidays remind us of who or what isn’t at the table. We feel keenly a death or an estrangement. Love lost\, health lost\, job loss may feel more present than joy. We are aware of the poignancy of changes felt or soon to come: children growing older or elders who will not be long with us. This poignancy is part of “Embracing the Darkness.” Many say this worship service is their favorite of the year. All are welcome \n scroll right scroll left\n\n\n\nView or download the Order of Service\n\n\nThe Order of Service is generally posted on Thursday before the service\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick To Join Worship on Zoom\n\n  \nOr use your phone to participate with audio only by dialing 929-205-6099 then enter 859 7713 3204 followed by the pound key. \nIf you have trouble connecting via Zoom\, you may view the sermon on our YouTube channel at a later date. \nBack to Events

SUMMARY:Reckoning\, Repair\, & Regime Change Teach-In with the Reckoning and Repair Working Group
DESCRIPTION:How should we carry out the work of justice in a time when government agencies are scrubbing words like “equity\,” “oppression\,” and “racism” from their websites? \nIn the chaos\, fear\, and furor of this moment\, it’s hard to know what to pay attention to. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless. But it’s important not to let the current regime drag us off course from the progress we have made. \nLet’s focus on what’s in our sphere of influence\, remembering our shared Unitarian Universalist values and the civil rights movements of the past. \nJoin members of the First Parish Reckoning & Repair Working Group to explore our current context\, find inspiration in the historical roots of the right-wing bogeyman known as DEI\, and build our collective capacity for resistance. \nFood will be served!

SUMMARY:Women's Alliance Program: Rev Marta Interviews Shira Hoffer
DESCRIPTION:A Hotline for Israel/Palestine: Rev. Marta Morris Flanagan interviews Shira Hoffer \nSeptember 15\, 2024 – after service\, 12:00 noon\, in the sanctuary and on Zoom \nJoin The Alliance for the first program of its inspirational and thought-provoking new season. This promises to be an engaging conversation between Rev. Marta and Shira Hoffer\, a remarkable Harvard undergraduate who in response to the horrific Hamas attack on Israel\, October 7\, 2023\, founded the Hotline for Israel/Palestine. This text-based hotline provides her fellow students and others a place where they can safely pose difficult questions without being labeled antisemitic or Islamophobic. The text-based hotline provides well-researched and curated resources about the historical\, cultural\, political\, and religious viewpoints underlying the long conflict between these two countries and their inhabitants. \nIn 2024 Shira expanded her outreach by founding the Institute for Multipartisan Education\, a charitable organization dedicated to “increasing and improving [the] capacity for curious approaches to difference and disagreement in educational settings.” \nJoin this event in-person in the Sanctuary or join on Zoom. \nLearn more about the Alliance by clicking here.
