SUMMARY:Memorial for Robert "Bob" McKersie
DESCRIPTION:First Parish member Robert “Bob” McKersie died on July 11th. He had been receiving hospice care this spring. His friends and family have been supporting him and were able to surround him with love when he passed. \nBob has been active at First Parish for decades. He was a gentle leader\, a longtime social justice advocate\, and\, most recently\, very involved in Lectio Divina and our men’s groups. We send our love to his four adult children\, Bill\, Liz\, Rob and Ali. \nRev. Erica Richmond will officiate the upcoming memorial service at First Parish on Tuesday\, August 4 at 2:00pm at the Meetinghouse and streamed online on Zoom. All are welcome to attend as a sign of love for Bob and support for his family. \nThis service will be livestreamed on Zoom – click here to join the service on Zoom. \nNOTE ON PARKING: Due to ongoing construction around the Meetinghouse\, parking may be limited on the day of the service. There is a large municipal lot\, the Russell Commons lot\, behind the Dallin Museum across Massachusetts Avenue from the Meetinghouse. There are two handicapped accessible parking spots in the First Parish staff parking area between our building and the Robbins Library\, and if Pleasant Street is open\, there are additional accessible parking spaces on the circle off of Pleasant Street adjacent to our building. Please leave these accessible spaces free for attendees with mobility needs who have accessible parking tags on their vehicles\, and please do not park in any marked First Parish parking spaces if you are not members of Bob’s family.

But (we might wonder)\, can kids climb it? \nWe have competing commitments: safety\, fun\, the health of the tree\, & honoring the dead. Let’s use this crabapple tree as a case study–not simply to make a rule\, but to explore the deeper questions that hang on the tree and articulate how we want to be a multigenerational community together. \nJoin this participatory workshop\, facilitated by Rev. Stevie\, to learn more about covenant conversations by practicing them. Everyone is welcome. DESCRIPTION:Registration is now closed for the 2026 Ferry Beach Retreat!\nDate: Friday September 25th (5pm) through Sunday September 27th (noon)\, 2026\nPlace: Ferry Beach Retreat and Conference Center\, 5 Boardwalk Drive\, Saco\, ME \nAll are welcome: members\, non-members\, families\, couples\, singles\, youth and children! It’s the perfect opportunity to get to know one another\, relax\, and have fun in community. \nWhether you are seeking connection and conversation or quiet and contemplation\, the Ferry Beach retreat has something for you!  If you’re looking for peace and solitude\, the campus is large\, the beach is on-site\, and the dining hall has a wonderful wrap-around porch filled with rocking chairs.  You’re welcome to be as active or low-key as you wish. There are numerous attendee-run activities including\, in the past\, yoga\, meditation\, group walks along the beach and/or through the woods\, a shopping trip to the Saco Goodwill\, art-making\, Frisbee golf outing\, card and board games\, puzzles and more!  And Saturday night boasts both a bonfire and the famous Talent/No Talent Show. \nLodging options include:\n\nCamping at the Ferry Beach campground (least expensive option)\nDorm rooms with twin/queen/bunk beds and shared bathrooms (most popular option)\nCabins/cottages with private baths (most expensive option)\nStay in a nearby motel and attend the retreat as a “commuter”(you arrange lodging for yourself)\n\nMeals are provided:\n\nThree on Saturday\, one on Sunday—no cooking or dishes! With its own endowment and investments\, the Alliance remains a financially independent group within First Parish. The majority of our annual expenditures go to support a charitable giving plan that focuses on organizations that serve women and families in transition. Alliance meetings\, programs\, and activities provide opportunities for learning\, ongoing fellowship\, and rich discussions. Membership in the Alliance is open to those in our church who identify as female; Alliance programs and activities are inclusive across all gender identities and ages.
