Red Crescent volunteers work to rescue a child named Hind Rajab trapped in a car under Israeli fire. Writer and director\, Kaouther Ben Hania\, carefully constructs a relentlessly-paced narrative around the archival audio of Hind Rajab’s distress call. Additional documentary footage from the day is intelligently woven into the world of the film alongside compelling performances by Saja Kilani and Motaz Malhees as the rescue operators who speak to Hind. One of the year’s most unforgettable movies\, THE VOICE OF HIND RAJAB is a breathtaking and complex work of docu-fiction. \nThe film is emotionally heavy. DESCRIPTION:The Parish Committee has established a committee to investigate rebuilding the front corner section of the church grounds to welcome the broader community\, honor Marta’s 16 years of service and reinforce our corner as an area of public witness. We will have a listening session on April 12nd from 12:00 to 1:00 in the Sanctuary to hear your ideas. We also hope to make this session available online. We will post prior design ideas on the rolling board in the vestry to jump start our discussion. You can also discuss your ideas with any of the members of our team: Allan Tosti\, Andrew Leonard\, Mark Wilke\, Phil Speare\, John Galantowicz\, Peggy Gardiner and Sanjay Newton. \nAll are welcome to come look at prospective plans\, share feedback\, and ask questions in the Sanctuary at noon on April 12. Stop by the congregational art show opening in the Parlor and then come learn about the plans for our front lawn. \nWe also encourage you to check out the plans and information posted on the folding screen in the Vestry – available starting March 29 and leading up to the information session and conversations on April 12.

SUMMARY:Benefit Concert for North American Indian Center of Boston
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the North American Indian Center of Boston (NAICOB) and all they do to support Indigenous Peoples in the Greater Boston area. Dance to Classic Rock with Stanley and The Undercovers. Good work\, Great Fun! \nAs the oldest urban Indian center in Massachusetts\, NAICOB’s mission is to empower the Native American community with the goal of improving the quality of life of Indigenous peoples. NAICOB was originally established in 1969 as the Boston Indian Council (BIC) when it served as the hub of social and civil rights activities for the American Indian/Alaska Native and First Nations urban Indian community in Boston. Indigenous community members met across the street from Boston Common\, then on Washington Street in Dorchester\, and in 1974 established our current center on South Huntington Avenue in Jamaica Plain. In 1976\, Governor Dukakis signed Executive Order No. 126 recognizing the Boston Indian Council as the state’s liaison with resident members of tribes with whom the state holds Treaties and other agreements. The BIC reorganized as the North American Indian Center of Boston in 1991 and offered innovative programs such as a drop-in recovery facility\, Native American head start\, and on-site job training. They continue to provide a wide range of cultural\, social\, educational\, and professional services to Native peoples in the Commonwealth\, guided by the express needs of their community members.

DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the Club Passim Folk Collective\, Opening Doors presents “Shades of Black: The Hip-Hopera\,” a free concert and conversation with Zakiyyah at Arlington UU Church. \nZakiyyah is an artist-changemaker who utilizes music and visual media to explore themes that centralize marginalized communities via her production company\, Black and Bold Productions. As an actress and classically-trained singer who is well-versed in opera\, hip-hop\, jazz\, and R&B\, she employs her extremely versatile skill-set to reach a broad range of audiences and craft a sound that is uniquely her own—including her most well-known creation\, “hip-hopera.” She has served as a racial equity consultant through Arts Connect International\, a peer mentor for Music to Life\, an artistic partner with Boston Children’s Chorus\, and currently teaches voice through Harvard’s Holden Voice Program. In his talk\, and more personally at Reverberations\, Jordan will address balancing Wampanoag spiritual practice and western/Christian practice\, focusing on how that duality and complexity inform how he navigates the world and manifests in his life and work. \nHe’ll bring his experience in teaching\, youth media activism\, curriculum development with a focus on social justice\, and youth and community organizing with several nonprofits\, as discusses his work to celebrate Native American Nations and community. \nReverberations will be held after service in the Sanctuary. These examples were gathered by our Transition Team in their on-going work to provide information about a variety of topics as we move forward in our search for our next lead minister. \nAs you scan these documents we encourage you to notice keywords\, phrases\, and Unitarian Universalist values shared by all.
