Financial Feasibility Study Results
Our UUA stewardship consultant, Mark Ewert, concluded that “this is an opportune time for First Parish Unitarian Universalist of Arlington to undertake a capital campaign. People are feeling very positive about the Church and feel that some of the work is long overdue. The timing seems to be good and participants in the study felt a real sense of urgency about some of the projects proposed, particularly to renovate .... spaces for meetings and religious education.”
Using the hypothetical "Dream" building plan as a test case, Mark interviewed 48 households about their willingness and ability to give to a capital campaign. This scenario, which the congregation voted to use for the purpose of the interviews, focuses on improving accessibility for people of varying abilities and enhancing our classroom and meeting space. Mark spoke to households representing a mix of ages and length of First Parish membership, and to a wide range of ability to give financially. He reported to Parish Committee that he is confident we can raise $ 1.2 - 1.5 million, and possibly as much as $2.1 million. Even though the full scope of work in the test scenario exceeds $3.0 million, the lower amounts Mark predicted would allow us to make major upgrades in our accessibility and to increase useable classroom and meeting space. Many who voted in October actually preferred a lower priced project.
