First Parish Youth Group
| The Youth Group is a group of high school age youth
and adult advisors that meets on Sunday nights from 7-8:30. The Youth
Group does a variety of activities including community service work.
Every Sunday night there is a planned activity, whether it is art,
music, spiritual growth, or games. This Youth Group is relatively
large with more than 40 youth enrolled. |
|
Service Opportunities
Many times throughout the year the youth are called upon to help
out in church sponsored events, like the Harvest Moon Fair. The
youth run a church service that is put on every year in the spring,
each year with a different theme. Some of the themes so far have
been New Orleans , Love and Chocolate, and Dreams. |

Leadership Opportunities
The Youth Group promotes youth empowerment though leadership.
There are many opportunities to become more involved in the community
though Youth Group. The youth have been down to New Orleans twice
to clean and rebuild since Katrina and the trip had many youth
in leadership positions. |

YAC (Youth Adult Committee)
The group is governed by a YAC (Youth Adult Committee). The YAC
decides the activities for Sunday nights, makes decisions about
the structure and format of youth group, and organizes service
projects. For example, some activites that the YAC has organized
have been volunteering on a farm for a day and fundraising to run
a dinner for the homeless. Ten youth in the group hold leadership
positions on the YAC and attend regular YAC meetings.
The Youth Group is a wonderful place to grow as a person and as
a youth leader.
