Youth Group Tuba City Quilt

Carolyn Hodges -- Trees

Carolyn Hodges -- Majestic sky

Tuba City Cultural Odyssey
This fabric project commemorates the youth service trip to Tuba City, Arizona where youth group members worked with Navajo and Hopi students at the Tuba City Boarding School. The First Parish Youth Group created this fabric piece as a fund raising raffle. Each member of the group, including advisors and leaders, designed and created a block using common fabric.
Raffle winner: Andy Winslow, 2011

Robert’s New Hampshire Autumn
I learned this new technique from Ann Loveless, a Michigan quilt artist. This landscape is created using an “impressionist method”. Robert Kinzler took the photograph that I used as a basis for this quilt.

Majestic Sky
I love the majesty of the ocean sky-scape. This impressionist method quilt attempts to capture the beauty and color of the beach at sunrise.

Wendy Page -- A Jitter

Ajitter    This quilt begun long ago, took on a new life when I was advised to cut up the initial quilt squares. This tip came from a quilter who had seen an image of my previous project on line! Wendy Page, 2010

Diane Shriver -- Full floral

A Circular Garden.    My mom gave me a Joann Fabrics quilt that I adapted, replacing some fabrics, altering the design a bit, and creating my own circular quilting pattern. Machine-pieced; hand-quilted. Thanks to the Wise Women quilters for helping me baste the "sandwich" of top, filler, and backing. Diane Shriver, 2010

Wendy Page -- Buttoned Up

Buttoned Up    Note the hand-made buttons used to embellish this quilt. A fun project started at a Ferry Beach “Quilting by the Bay” summer conference. Wendy Page, 2010

One of the twin quilts. The second twin quilt.

Transylvania Twins    First Parish has a special relationship with our sister church in Gagy, Transylvania, in Romania. Babies are a special gift! The arrival of twins to Reverend Gal and Magdolna Zoltan in February 2011 gave rise to this project. These quilts are created for little Emese and her brother, Botond.

Many of the Wise Women Quilters gathered for the opening of this show after church on May 15th and we took advantage of the opportunity to snap a picture.

The Wise Women meet two Wednesday evenings a month to design and create the annual First Parish Raffle Quilt.  This exhibit showcases some of our individual projects, a youth remembrance quilt, and quilts made for new born twins to Pastor and Mrs. of our sister church in Gage, Romania. For more information about The Wise Women, please contact any of the exhibitors or Wendy Page.
